HISTORY OF ROTARY BANGALORE UDYOG

ROTARY BANGALORE UDYOG was started on 18th May, 2000 and chartered on Thursday 29th June, 2000.  The club has been sponsored by Rotary Bangalore West. Rtn.Dr. H.B. Rudresh, Rtn.Prakash S.Prabhu, Rtn. M.Chandrashekar and Rtn.Krishna Prasad A.G. from Rotary Bangalore West started the club with 25 Charter members. In the first year itself the club’s membership strength has grown up to 35 under the dynamic leadership of Charter President Rtn. Dr. H.B.Rudresh.
The club meets at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday to enable the members to attend the meeting after their work. The club has decided to induct members having their residence or place of work in and around Peenya. Further the service projects are also planned to benefit the community in and around Peenya.
The club has maintained consistently more than 85% attendance in club meetings with good friendship and fellowship. A cozy meeting place has been selected to maintain decorum of the meeting. The club has involved the organizations like PIA, RUDSETI, etc., in various projects.
In the second year (2001-02), Rtn. Prakash S. Prabhu continued the strong foundation laid down by Rtn.Dr.H.B.Rudresh, Charter President by inducting 18 new members on installation day itself  & 7 more members thereafter taking the strength of the club to 58. The club has provided mid day meal to 700 students of Govt. School, Peenya in partnership with ISKCON. A well furnished library block has been built for the Govt. School, Peenya. The club has taken up many more service projects such as IOL Fitment camps, Blood Donation camps, Polio plus programs, treatment of handicap child, Health check-up for school children, dental check-up for SSI Employees, distribution of medicine to kidney patient and distribution of note books for school children.
To strengthen the bonds between Rotary member & their families, the club had organized 10 fellowship meetings with family, all filled with entertainment and fellowship. Under Vocational Service, SSI employees personality development training program was organized at Rudset Institute and Vocational Excellence awards were given to eminent personalities who excelled in their respective vocation. During the year Rotract Club of Bangalore Udyog at K.L.E. Dental College, Peenya was started. In the very second year of the club, eight of the club members become Paul Harris Fellows. The club has received RI Presidents Citation for the club and RI Presidents Citation to the President and four awards  from the District for maximum membership growth, service projects and Governor’s citation for the club and to the president under the dynamic dealership of Rtn. Prakash S Prabhu. Rotary Bangalore Udyog Trust has been formed during the year.
In the third year(2002-03), Rtn.M.Chandrashekar continued the good works done by Charter President Rtn.Dr.H.B.Rudresh and Past President Rtn.Prakash S.Prabhu. Club has provided mid-day meal to about 450 students of Govt. School, Chokkasandra in addition to 700 students at Govt. School, Peenya in Partnership with ISKCON. Two class rooms were built at Sanjay Gandhinagar, Govt. School during the year. The club has started Tig welding training in association with Indian Institute of Welding. This project will be on-going project of the club to benefit the unemployed youths in and around  Peenya. Further Tailoring training classes has been started at Govt. School, Chokkasandra as ongoing project. The club has distributed 13,000 school note books at the cost of Rs.90000/- to students of seven Govt. schools during the year. Rotary Bnagalore Udyog Trust was registered as Charitable under IT Act.
In the fourth year ( 2003-04), Rtn.Thippaiah Setty has continued the good work done by his predecessors. Apart from our ongoing project such as Tigwelding and tailoring training classes, contribution to ISKCON Akshaya patra, distribution of note books to school children, the club has distributed twenty vegetable carts to the needy people on micro credit basis, 50 blankets to old aged people at Neerkal village, donated 10 school desks and benches to Govt. School, Chokkasandra, constructed water sump and tank at Sanjay Gandhinagar School and Thigalarapalya School and undertaken electrification work at Govt. School, Chokkasandra. Very importantly the club has purchased 7250 Sq. Ft. of land at 13th Cross, 4th Phase, Peenya Industrial Area, Bangalore for our dream project Rotary Vocational training Center ‘Rotary Udyog Bhavan’.
In the fifth year (2004-05), President Rtn.I.K. Bhat has continued all the ongoing projects of the club. The club along with RPA College, Rajajinagar has celebrated teachers day and awarded eminent teachers. During the year club has hosted District event Centennial ICGF on Vocational Service at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall under the chairmanship of Rtn.Prakash S Prabhu. The club has registered for Centennial Project ‘Rotary Vocational Service Center’ with Rotary International. The construction of Vocational Center building has been started with financial assistance from M/s.Canara Bank. The Canara Bank has agreed to take the Ground floor on lease for their SSI branch. The Cellar portion of the building wherein the Rotary Vocational Center is proposed has been almost completed  and inaugarated by the District Governor Rtn.S.R.Yogananda. 
In the sixth year (2005-06), President Rtn.Ashok G Shanbhag  continued all the ongoing projects of the club. The prestigious Centennial Project Rotary Vocational Training Center building ‘Rotary Udyog Bhavan’ was completed. District Governor Rtn.S.S.Ramdas inaugurated the building. The Ground Floor of the Rotary Udyog Bhavan is let out to M/s.Canara Bank for housing their SSI branch. The cellar Floor where the Vocational Training Center is housed was named as Rotary Udyog Nanjamma Vocational Training Center in the fond memory of Smt. Nanjamma, late mother of Rtn.Thippaiah Setty for his generous contribution to the building. A small auditorium to accommodate the club weekly meetings is built on the Cellar Floor and named as Maria Conference Hall in  fond memory of Smt.Maria, mother of Rtn.Thampy Mathew for his generous contribution to the building. During the year, 17000 note books were distributed to 7 Govt. Schools in and around Peenya. The Club has awarded scholarships to 3 students each from 7 Govt. Schools in and around Peenya. The club has donated Computers to Govt. Junior College, Peenya and Rotary Tumkur Central. During the year, 3 blood donation camps were organized and record 396 sachets of blood was collected. The Club has organized 2 health check up camps, wherein 800 people got benefited.  A Cardiac health check up camp was organized in Rotary Udyog Bhavan in association with Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore and 170 people got benefited. During the year 8 new members have been inducted and  Four members have become Paul Harris Fellow’s.  The Club had very nice fellowship during the year and members enjoyed the Rotary under the dynamic leadership of Rtn.Ashok G Shanbhag.
In the seventh year (2006-07), President Rtn. Thampy Mathew continued all the ongoing projects of the Club.During the year, 16,000 note books were distributed to Government Schools. A compound wall and flouring work worth Rs.1.5 Lakhs was executed at Government School, Sanjaygandhinagar. During the year 2 blood donation camps were organized at Rotary Udyog Bhavan and 168 Sachets of blood was collected. During the year 8 new members have been inducted to the club. Four of our members become Paul Harris Fellow’s.
In the Eighth year (2007-08), President Rtn. M.Omkarappa, continued all on- going projects, distributed 23,000 notebooks to poor children in Govt. Schools, Constructed Posh toilet at Chookasandra School, Kinderact was started in the same school, Maths & Science tutions to SSLC students of nearby government schools was conducted at Udyog Bhavan. Rotaract Club was started in Govt. Senior College, Peenya, first RCC was started at T.Begur and our club also sponsored new club at Nelamangala. The club also had its first Major Donor in the form of Rtn. Thippaiah Setty along with 9 PHF’s, 19 new members were added, also Rtn. Shashidhar Shetty was awarded with the Best Rotarian Award from RI.
In the Ninth Year (2008-09), President Rtn. Abhay Kanjikar also continued all on-going projects, distributed 32,000 notebooks to 6000 students in nine govt schools in peenya, conducted blood donation camps, health check up & dental checkup camps, Heart Screening program for industry workers was organised  in association with Manipal Heart Foundation, Aids & Cancer Awareness Camps were organised, Rs.50,000 was donated towards Bihar Flood Relief, another Rs.50,000 was given to district towards eye operations and heart operations for the poor needy children, tri-
cycles and wheel chairs were given to physically handicapped, contributed Rs. 1.75 lacs towards Mid-Day meals in association with ISKCON and Adamya Chethana for the benefit of 3500 poor school children, contribution was given to Shrushti Special Academy, center for mentally challenged children towards Meals and list of items required at center, 15  benches were donated to two government schools respectively for higher primary students. For the first time, international fellowship trip was organised to Thailand. 12 members contributed to Rotary Foundation towards PHF’s. 21 new members were inducted taking the club to large club category. The President right in the beginning of the year was recognised as HERO President and  District gave 13 awards to the club including Bronze Best Club Award - Large Club Category, President Award, awards to Club Secretary & Treasurer, etc.
In the Tenth Year, first decade of club, Pres. Rtn Dr.Kiran  continued from the strong foundation laid by past presidents, increased members to 108 by Inducting 30 new members and continued all the  ongoing  projects like Note book (48000 books worth 2.3 lakhs) to govt. schools in and around Peenya and also with Nelamangala Rotary, Conducted 11 Blood donation camps, collected  1235 units. Health, dental,  Heart screening , cancer detection camps for the school children & general public were conducted, Donated sum of Rs 1 Lakh towards Housing for North Karnataka Flood  Affected area, Vegetable vendor cart towards women empowerment on Micro Credit Basis. Sponsored 3 Heart Surgeries under Dist. Heart care Programs. A fund raising program SINCHANA conducted, felicitated renowned educationalist Dr M Mohan Alva with Vocational Excellence Award. Contributed Rs 1.45 lakhs towards Mid Day meal program of ISKCON and Adamya Chetana, contributed medicine to Shrusthi Special Academy. Computer education programs were conducted for the school drop outs and SSLC Tuition classes were conducted in Maths & Science. Dist. Simplified Grants (DSG) project was undertaken with Madanpalli, 50 sewing machines worth Rs. 1 Lac was given.
A state of Art Hall  - British Biological Block  and Rtn KS Venkatesh Sabhangana worth 18 lakhs constructed at RBU Bhavan 14PHF’s  were contributed towards TRF. Pres. Kiran with Ann Dr. Sangeetha visited two rotary clubs in USA, also to Rotary One centre, Evanston. In Total one hundred eight projects were conducted during the entire year. Pres. Kiran awarded STAR PRESIDENT AWARD in first month of the Rotary year.  The Club have Won Four First Prizes & Two Second prizes. The Club was adjudged SECOND BEST CLUB in large club category.
